“There are only 143 rioting days until Election Day. Stay frosty, friends!” That’s the best line on Substack in a very long time — I (truly) laughed out loud.
If you’re in England later this year, we may need cheering up! Anyway, before you get complacent, the powers that be will do everything they can to preserve the status quo. Huge protests in France just because so called right wing parties did well in second order European elections. Democracy is under threat when the wrong side wins. Expect the next few months to be - interesting.
For taste to be repaired, education must be repaired. A nation of dolts will never produce an elite with a strong and true aesthetic sense. For every 100 kids properly educated, 1 or 2 will be rich enough, and in possession of the requisite excellent taste, to act as patrons. An additional 20 or so will have the means, and the desire, to patronize the higher arts through regular attendance. If we're lucky, some (up to 30??) number of the others will make an effort, "for the kids", to get to a concert or an opera once a year.
I don't think I have to tell you what happens when we do not educate properly...
