The only thing that matters at this moment is winning. Don’t put the proverbial cart before the horse. Courage.

Trump 2024

Define “winning”. One where child sacrifice is confined to certain geographies based on voting majorities?

Amazing we see the whole social order collapsing but prefer not to talk about the root cause.

I’m a doctor. I abhor abortion. I’m interested in preserving life. That being said, it turns out I’m not the king.

Better to get 80% of what you want than 100% of nothing. Then work toward the rest.

So yes, look at it however you want, but a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of tiny minds, said a famous New Englander.

Winning means stopping the Commies, the Islamofascists, and the perpetual criminal mediocrities destroying the country from doing more damage and beginning the work of reversing the damage. And if we can’t do that then it’s time to get good at armed skirmishes because that’s where this goes if the Commies win.

Gee, wonder what happened in the 1970’s to make things far worse?

Imagine thinking you could have an evil like abortion attain the status of civic sacrament and have a peaceful, prosperous society? Wild.

It’s fairly bizarre.

There is nothing novel to this strategy. Read National Review issues from 1970 onward. It has nothing to show for it.

I think we are called Witness at every possible opportunity. Until then, maybe this Babylonia Captivity is a judgement upon us.

The country is far worse off than in 1970 ideologically, economically, socially.

National Review, well maybe in 1970 they still had testicles. So what’s your strategy?

Die with honor on the field instead of switching sides because you cant win.

That is not what she said at all. She said be strategic. I truly think that the right loves losing because they it makes them feel like martyrs. This isn’t about compromising on the issue. It’s about thinking long term and not like a teenager. The left can do this which is why they were able to slow march through the culture while we screamed and yelled at the clouds.

Please show the successes of “incrementalism” and this strategy may have credence.

I would say Trump getting Roe overturned is a good example. But just look at the left. All their success is a result of incrementalism. They have laid out their primary goal (demolish the nuclear family, etc) for at least 70 years. Just read their writing. So no one on the left ever said “I won’t vote for you because you want civil unions and claim say that marriage is sacred. We want full polycule pods now!” They spent years working together for that goal. I think we are just saying to not sacrifice the long term goal here, which isn’t just to outlaw it but make it unthinkable, for short term purity.

The Kingdom of God doesnt work like that. There is truth and falsehood, darkness and light. In this culture we want grey everywhere., but in God there is no darkness at all. When he calls us to be Holy as He is Holy, voting to allow abortion again in Arizona so you can win elections to get rid of ????? Is a perlious evil compromise which calls down the fire of Gods judgement on our own heads.

What do you do, besides vote, to change hearts and minds around abortion? It’s not just a political fight. I agree. But it looks to me like Republicans have not learned nothing from losing the culture or why they lost it. It’s not about compromise or turning away from evil. It’s about showing people what abortion is. It’s about being able to articulate these values, something I do every day as a college teacher. Every year I get students writing about this issue. And every year they all begin with knee jerk pro choice essays. (I teach college comp and they have to write an argument essay) But every single time, after I force them to write opposition arguments, make them engage with the best arguments on the opposition, they either soften their stance or realize they can no longer write the argument they want to write. That is the ripple. That is what will change the culture.

I think she did. Why don't you give us your definition?

Expand full comment

Her argument is a half century old has little to show for it. Conservatism has conserved…nothing. Not even a widely shared understanding of what a “woman” is.

Maybe stripped of its Christian content and the decades of prudence aren’t the best way to build a Culture of Life.

There are no short cuts. But hoping Trump will do a bait and switch on all those “pro-choicers” who ostensibly will now flock to his banner seems like the wish-casting from years past.

Winning what? Voting to compromise with evil so you can do some "righteous deed" in the future is not the way God sees it. When God calls us to Holiness and righteoussness he doesnt promise us "success" by worldly standards. If you are caught in the desire for results you start compromising with truth and righteoussness.

Why are you stealing the words out of my head? I think this post. I live this post. I only discuss or verbalize my thoughts with a select few. I think it's time to let loose. As far as the abortion issue is concerned, if you take it out of the discourse you take away the Democrats platform. Think of Daffy Duck and the rug pull routine....

I believe life starts at conception. I believe abortion is murder. I believe “Roe vs Wade” was abysmal “law”. It is a GREAT abdication of OUR responsibilities to expect politics and politicians to change our culture and peoples hearts. That responsibility is OURS. We are ALL called to speak the truth in love and compassion. To share the gospel in our ACTIONS and words. To change hearts where we have been called.

Well argued ... my viewpoint exactly. In true Federal procedure (i.e. Constitutional) each State can deal with abortion separately. That's what we had before Roe .... and now. Get busy in your state. Mine is good (Oklahoma).

Peachy, I adore you! I went to an all sports- mostly swimming training camp- in northern Canada for 7 years when I was young… 60 some years ago. The best , smartest, funniest and toughest gals I’ve ever met from around the world.

It’s been nearly impossible to replicate that experience and those friendships. You remind me, with every posting, that those women still exist.,Please keep up the fight!!!

Peachy is right. The culture must change. We need women to talk about the glories of motherhood. We need grandparents to tell our youth that nothing was more precious than children. We need women who have had abortion talk about the hell they invited upon themselves, the regret, the guilt, the children whose presence is missed.
