The Right's Hardest-Working Culture Warriors Take a Well Deserved Victory Lap
What a night. What a week. What an Inauguration!
This was Burning Man for the polished MAGA right. The Gathering of the Juggalos for the dissident anons. And a massive, citywide, epic Victory-America ticker tape celebration marking the end of a ten-year long war that began even before Trump’s 2016 election.
The Ball
Mr. Keenan and I flew to D.C. as guests of Passage Press, the newest and most culturally dynamic independent publisher in America, to attend Passage Press’s black tie Coronation Ball, on the eve of Donald Trump’s triumphant inauguration.
The name of course was chosen on purpose to trigger haters who are deeply concerned about “rogue elements” of the right who yearn for a fascist orange dictator, namely, Sir Curtis Yarvin, who was recently, and quite rudely, interrogated in the pages of the failing New York Times about his musings on an American monarchy.
But really, this particular party was interesting because it somehow was able to corall the camps and various factions using the thread that animates all of them: the power of words. Books, magazines, tweets, posts, jokes, memes, podcasts: the lowly wordcels had delivered this win.
Okay, maybe the tech nerds and programmers had taken it the final mile, with their riches, but it was the dogged wordcel who had been able to keep the beacons lit during the darkest days of battle.
The writers had written this story in their heads many times, and now they could sit back and watch as the King they’d cast in their epic tale took his place on stage.
